Post-Race Report: 2016 IAU 24H Asia & Oceania Championships

    The IAU 24H Asia and Oceania Championships were rounded off in Kaohsiung city.  The Competition was held from November 19 to 20 at the Kaohsiung National Stadium.  The race route is around the main stadium of world games 2009.  It is a 1.750 Kilometer loop and has been measured by Grade A IAAF/AIMS measurer.  Chinese Taipei along with teams from Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Philippines, New Zealand and Australia came prepared to join the event this year. All the athletes shared their deployment and ambition toward the championships.

    After running 24 hours, Barry LOVEDAY (AUS) keeps ahead of the pack and wins the gold of Men’s Single Race. Takayoshi SHIGEMI (JPN) suepasses John PEARSON (AUS)  2.5 laps and got the silver. In the Women’s Single Race, the Australia delegation gets a clean sweep.  Nikki WYND, Nicole BARKER and Sharon SCHOLZ, got the top three.  For the Team Competition, the Australia delegation won both Men’s and Women’s gold medal.  The host nation, Chinese Taipei, got the second place. The Korea team got the bronze medal in men’s team competition. It was a very successful race for the Australia team.  

   The event also includes a 24H open category. Combining the results with championships and open category, there are 12 runners had reached the national level (Men: 200K; Female: 180K).  Because of the results, this event had qualified to apply the silver labelling.

       Besides 24h race 101 participants, there are also 12H, 6H, 24H relay and 6H relay runners on the track; which make race alive.
